Description

The majestic, Casa Azul, one of the most beautiful and imposing architectural jewels of the Municipality’s cultural heritage. Its Blue color is a registered, indelible trademark and cannot, without the approval of a decree authorizing historical heritage, be changed.
The construction, from the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century, demonstrates the splendor of an era, where good -taste and refinement, even among the nouveau riche. Part of the urban legends is the story of the Portuguese creator and builder, who came to Brazil to make his fortune and, upon returning, took the most beautiful and strongest wood he found to make his home. Taking advantage of one of the largest quarries in Europe, located on the Spanish side, in Padrenda, he decided to structure his residence on stone blocks measuring approximately 1 m x 60 cm x 50 cm. The most diverse known styles were used to build, with solidity and grandeur, his dream. , is also millennial. The majority of Greek and Roman temples and great medieval cathedrals were made of stone. This technique uses precisely carved stone, so that the pieces fit perfectly on top of each other without the aid of binding mortar. For strict installation, metal clips are used and, sometimes, whale oil as an adhesive, to help with sealing. Due to the difficulty of finding qualified labor and also due to the cost, stonework was not used throughout the building, but only in its most important parts: on the frontispieces, on the thresholds, on the pilasters, on the cornices, on the portals, on the windows and in the wedges, with another mural technique being used in the rest of the fences. The use of this technique in most of the construction demonstrates the care and precision of the construction, which adds immeasurable value. from the lower floor. The minimum thickness of 60 cm was maintained for the external walls on all walls. windows on the front of the building, next to the entrance, in addition to using the most classic model of stonework, the builder seems to abuse the technique, by ordering the Coat of Arms with the Symbol of the Maltese Cross, in honor of the country in which he was born, and the Coat of Arms of the Federative Republic of Brazil, showing gratitude to the country that welcomed him and gave him the opportunity to prosper. These symbols also represent the current owners: he is Portuguese by birth and she is Brazilian. Lasting harmony, reflected in the stone.
The property faces west, allowing the morning sun to bathe the back of the house in the morning. Its front rooms and bedrooms are blessed with the afternoon sun. These rooms maintain better heat during the cold winter periods, helped by the abundant amount of wood used inside.
The project for the construction of the property, as far as is known and told by the local population, came with the owner and builder from Brazil . For this reason, it has architectural details that bring it closer to the Brazilian colonial style, making this type of construction, in Portugal, known as Brazilian.. It is characterized by large halls and rooms and high ceilings, when most properties in the region, at the time, only had large common areas (halls and kitchens), with the others, on the contrary, small and low (easier to be heated). The renovation carried out by the current owners kept the main features intact, only creating plaster walls to cover up plumbing (necessary for bathrooms/bathrooms, and water heating system, which did not exist in the original project) and wiring (for heating, systems surveillance and internet distribution, since the 60 cm external walls make any signal impossible to obtain inside the house, if it were not for the adapted distribution). To allow a better visualization and understanding of the project, the current plans will be presented
along with the photographs.
The blue house is located on a plot of around 1,500 square meters that includes numerous functions and facilities aiming to maximize the beauty and comfort of the inhabitants .
Casa Azul has as its neighbors the Church of the Parish of Cristóval, a construction from the beginning of the 20th century, with a nice tower that vaguely resembles the shape of the famous Cléricos Tower, a demand that the builder's wife made to her husband to make a replica of the same, which was far from occurring, but simple reproduction remained, on a very small scale. The Church was located at a level much lower than that of the main body of the blue house. In this way, practically only a bandstand, the tower (with the bell tower) and the roof of the Church can be seen.
In the back, there is a rural property, at a level approximately 5 meters below the Casa Azul. On the opposite side of the Church, a recessed house, which has, next to the walls and bushes that form the border, an access passage to the garage, which makes the remoteness seem even greater. From the front, Casa Azul faces the M1118 road through a low wall made of the same stonework structure as the main building, topped by an iron structure. largest in Europe, a finding made by the Environmental Institute in 2013. The fact that it is a highly sought after tree for decoration during the Christmas season has caused a sharp reduction in this species, placing it in the Endangered category. At Casa Azul she has her protection. And it's part of the Christmas decoration like a gigantic Christmas Tree in the backyard.
According to the Hon's comment. Mr. President of the Portuguese Forestry Authority, published in Notice in 2010; A magnificent specimen of female holly that beautifies the main street and the bandstand of Cristoval, when it is loaded with red berries
